» Coho Ferry to Victoria, BC, Canada
Distance: 197 miles
Excursions: 14 miles
Trip Total: 3383 miles
Again, we woke up slowly. And then we scrambled
because we had to check out at 11 A.M. and we had to clean and pack up
all our possessions.
We got on the road slightly earlier than that, about 10:45, and headed
back to Aberdeen and Highway 101 to do the western loop through the
Olympic Peninsula. We
had a snack along Quinault Lake in the Olympic
National Park, but didn't stop again until Port Angeles. We considered
stopping at Lake Crescent (one of the original choices for the group
weekend), and had planned on driving up to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor's
Center, but we wanted to catch the afternoon Coho
Ferry in
Port Angeles. We arrived in Port Angeles early enough enough to
have a late lunch at an Indian restaurant before getting
on the 95-minute ferry ride to
Victoria.
Victoria,
British Columbia is a beautiful city. O
Canada! Rob had
made reservations over the Internet for Paul's
Moter Inn, so we went directly there to check in. After that, we
headed off to see the gardens at the Government
House, "the Ceremonial Home of all British Columbians." After the
gardens, which closed at dusk, we headed over to take a look at Craigdarroch
Castle, unfortunately already closed for the day. We then headed
downtown, parked the car, and walked along the Inner Harbour toward
the Parliament
Buildings and the Empress
Hotel. We stopped off for dinner at a pub on the way back to the
car before heading to the motel for the night. We really enjoyed Victoria
and plan to go back with a bit more time than
three
hours on
a Sunday
night.
