Log:

After returing from the mine, we cooked dinner and took some more photos of the stars. After dinner, we noticed that we weren't alone out in the desert. Every time we would go into the truck and turn on the interior lights, a flashlight would appear 500 yards away and start signaling to someone. We also saw occasional lights in Glenn Draw, a canyon that ran about 20-30 yards away from our camp. This made us pretty nervous, since we assumed that these were smugglers -- either drugs or human. Whoever was out there continued to watch us for a couple hours. Finally, as we were about to go to bed, we decided to bail on the Glenn Springs site since we knew we would probably just lie awake all night, wondering at whatever sound we heard. We threw our stuff into the truck, and made our way to the Rio Grande Village campground. That night a front blew in, and we ended up staying awake most of the night, listening to the wind pound our tent.

The next morning we took it easy, eventually making our way to the Paint Gap Road. Rob had brought his bike, so he went for a ride on the road. After the bike ride, we hiked down a side trail to Dripping Springs and the remains of an old ranch.

After Paint Gap, we passed through Study Butte and Terlingua, and then it was off for home.
