Today was our wedding anniversary -- Seven Years, for those of you scoring at home. Rob wanted to go SCUBA diving, so he walked around the corner to Sea Hawk Divers. After two near-misses where the boat either did not go out, or went out at a different time than he was told, he tried Mundaca Divers which is attached to the Avalon, an all-inclusive resort near the hotel. The security guards for the resort gave him the ol' Stink Eye when he tried to enter the premises without a wristband, but they let him pass eventually. The Mundaca guys were friendly, and since it was too late to go out that day, he booked a dive for the next morning. Mundaca, by the way, is named for Fermin Mundaca y Marecheaga, one of the wussier pirates of the 19th Century. He fell in love with a local girl 37 years younger than him, built and dedicated a mansion to her, and went insane when she ran off with another man.

Instead of diving, we went snorkeling. In the morning we snorkeled in the lagoon by our hotel. It was pretty shallow -- averaging about 3-4 feet deep except for a few 6-8 foot pockets -- but had lots of great fish near the large rocks that formed the perimeter.

After lunch at Zazil Ha, attached to the Na Balam, a swank hotel across the street from us, we went on a longer snorkeling trip. We swam out to a small reef off the shore of the Avalon resort, about 30 minutes of swimming each way. The currents were quite strong near the end, but it was a lot of fun.

After a considerable time relaxing back at the hotel, we got cleaned up and headed to town for dinner and piña coladas at Pingüinos on Playa Sol. We ended the night at Aluxes Coffee House for coffee and brownies.
